“How can you be an agent of change? I have seen in my own life how you can build on small actions if you stick with it. As a novelist, if you look at a 400-page book, and you want to do it in a short time, it’s not going to happen. It’s through the routine of doing it every single day, paragraph by paragraph, sentence by sentence, and word by word, you end up building that book. And in the same way, bringing about the change you want to see — what small change can you do? You have to do it every day. It can’t be like, Oh I voted now I can let them figure it out for the next four years. You basically have to keep the pressure on constantly. It can never stop. The minute that you have your eye off the steering wheel — then somebody’s out to get you.”
