Intimate by Paisley Rekdal

I absorbed Paisley’s Rekdal’s searing collection of poems-memoir-Edward Curtis autobiography, Intimate, in a couple days. It’s a work of art you can come back to again and again and learn something new. For now, here were some of my favorite lines:

  • We close down and down in an attempt to capture one frame, one vision of the self, one autobiography
  • My reticence’s only achievement was to make myself more of a mirror
  • To insist on authentic identity the way that Curis has is a form of violence
  • I cannot see myself without seeing first my audience, those who are seeing me

More to come…But really, check out this beautiful artwork that’s nailed the human experience and said hogwash to the concept of genre.
